Confused Bastards is the story of three entrepreneurs who initiate a start-up that shocks the
nation. What happens as an after effect is the crux of the story.
The three protagonists of the book – Aakash, Jai and Vivek – are exactly like the modern youth who are usually confused and spend most of their time figuring out what exactly do they want to do. Struggling with their own inner conflicts as well as the cruel world outside, they finally decide to
show the world their true potential. They initiate a start-up, an online platform wherein people can voice their honest opinions, can upload unabashed, unapologetic videos, venting out their angst against people, politics, bosses, lovers, taboos, or just about anything. Even the founders themselves.
The website was a hit, no doubt. But the after effects are much more than anticipated. In today’s era, when everything revolves around a controversy or becomes one, how does a platform that is so popular escape from the burns? To know the answer, you have to read the book.
The author has done a splendid job in portraying the three main characters – the three friends Aakash, Jai and Vivek. Even the fourth character Sattu is well chalked out and written about. Hats off to the author for the splendid description of the characters! While reading the book, you would feel like you are living with one of them. The writing style is simple and sentences are brief. There’s a fair bit of Hindi dialogues in between, which create a connect with the Indian readers. The plot is fresh and talks about how the youth think today. They have the dare and zeal in their heart to do something adventurous and experience something new. The story deals with every problem rather confusion that the youth face today. It talks about the 9 to 5 job, the love, insecurities, confusion, boredom, excitement and the feeling to do something different.
The title ‘Confused Bastards’ is also suitable to the plot. But again, just like some may find the expletive offensive, the language used inside the book is also likewise. The cover page of the book also blends in with the plot. The content displays wonderful sense of humour.
Overall, the book Confused Bastards connects very well with the youth of today.
It is a witty, crisp, humorous journey of three friends who try to make it big but as they say, everything comes at a cost.
What cost these three pay, is something to look forward to reading in this book.
