The Heartfulness Way is a book on spirituality that teaches us heart-based meditations for spiritual transformation. It is written by Daaji, the current spiritual guide in the Heartfulness tradition and Joshua Pollock, a Heartfulness trainer.
The book is written in a conversational tone between the two authors where the latter questions and the former provides the answers. This makes the book appealing to the readers, which could have otherwise seemed too didactic. The book is organized into three sections: Why Heartfulness, Practicing Heartfulness, and The Guru. This makes it easy for the readers to grasp the concepts shared in the book. In the beginning, we get to know about the Heartfulness Way and how it is different from other forms of meditation. The question-answer session between the authors makes it an engaging read. As soon as a question popped into my mind while reading the book, Joshua Pollock asked it to Daaji. This provided clarity and satisfaction while reading the book.
Meditation is the need of the hour as all of us are always under extreme stress. However, meditation is not an easy process. It takes discipline and willpower to sit and meditate every day. And if the results are not rewarding, people give it up within a few days. I have been practicing meditation since 2013 and I still struggle with it on some days. The methods of Heartfulness are easy to follow. As Daaji says, the Heartfulness way is the Sahaj Marg (natural path). In the second part of the book, the authors have discussed how to practice Heartfulness. It is a three-step process comprising meditation, cleaning, and prayer. Each step has been discussed in depth. While discussing mediation, Daaji has provided answers to some common questions such as when and where to meditate, how long to meditate, which is the right posture for meditation, etc. If you are a beginner, you will benefit a lot from following the steps of meditation mentioned in the book. The steps are easy to follow and practice. The best thing that I liked about practicing Heartfulness is the cleaning process. I have read many articles and books on meditation, but none of them has emphasized the importance of cleaning. The reason many people fail to achieve success in meditation is that they are not aware of the importance of cleaning. The purpose of cleaning is to free yourself from behavioral tendencies and harmful patterns of thinking.
This book will let you see the significance of prayer in a new light. You can easily follow the steps of cleaning and prayer to achieve inner fulfillment. Finally, in the last section of the book, the authors have discussed the role and importance of a spiritual guru. Through some interesting stories of his gurus, Daaji has beautifully explained the role that a real Guru plays in the life of a seeker. He also answered how to identify a Guru and not fall into any trap. There are very few books that can bring a positive change in your life. After reading The Heartfulness Way, I reckon that it can transform anyone’s life if the reader is receptive. You will realize that your heart is your inner guru. If you follow it faithfully, it will guide you to your destination. The writing is lucid and engaging. After some time, you might feel that you are asking the questions to Daaji. The Heartfulness Way is an enlightening read for people interested in spiritual evolution. The heart-based meditations shared in the book can help both beginners and experts.
