Books To Look Out For This Summer!

The author narrates the story of Amit, a middle aged working professional, who faces the same struggles that so many of us in the corporate world do. As he deals with the challenges of work and ‘success’, of managing the relationship with his wife, of spending time with his kids and taking care of his aging parents, he loses sight of what is most important – taking care of himself. He moves into the artificial world of corporate success, where the only yardsticks of measuring success are rank, money and material belongings. As he chases these things, he leaves behind the things that are truly important – physical health, mental well being, friends and family.
Through this story, the author shows us how we can take control of our lives and change ourselves to balance each of these facets of our life. She demonstrates how changing just one aspect, say eating habits, is not enough to actually change the person and discover the real person that has been buried under the load of expectations. What we need to do, she says, is make a change in every aspect of our life – eat better, sleep better, work out, spend meaningful time with family, do things one enjoys and through a combination of all of these, find the mental satisfaction that one is looking for.
She takes us through the process – yes, it is a journey and a hard one – but it is the only way to make changes that have the potential to be permanent. The adage is ‘a small step at a time’ and the author shows us how to take that first and every subsequent step through every facet of our lives.
I have been skeptical of a life coach in the past, but having read this wonderfully written book, will certainly be considering the merits of having one now.
