Once in a while you come across a book that has the power to pierce through your heart. A Monster Calls is one such book. Written by Patrick Ness, it is a story about a young boy with an ailing mother at home. It covers a range of somewhat difficult topics ranging from death to guilt.

Conor, who is trying to escape his bleak reality, is summoned by a monster who will not leave him alone until he speaks “his truth”. One of the striking features of the book was how beautifully lucid the writing is! That kept me hooked onto the book till the end. A Monster calls is a difficult book especially for someone who has lost a dear one. His truth is probably the truth of every primary caregiver who knows the end. The author uses rich yet simple language which makes it really easy for the reader to visualize the scenes in front of them,

Even though the ending of the book was somewhat heavy and I was bawling through the last 50 pages, I will highly recommend you all to pick up this book!
